We are currently seeking a Full Time Temporary staff member to join our team based at our offices in Sunshine.


The role:

Reporting to the Municipal Building Surveyor and Deputy Building Surveyors, we are seeking a Building Inspector - Special Projects who can bring their skills and experience for:

  • Providing high level technical expertise to fulfill the objectives of the Building Act, the Building Regulations, the Municipal Building Control Plan and Council policy objectives.
  • Primary objective of the position is to inspect buildings for the purpose of administering and enforcing building and safety standards under Part 9 (Fire Safety Requirements) and Part 15 (Maintenance of Buildings) of the Building Regulations.
  • Carry out building inspections of buildings for the principal purpose of compliance and upgrade for passive and active fire safety systems.
  • Work with relevant authorities (Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police and Cladding Safety Victoria) to achieve the objectives of the Municipal Building Control Plan.
  • Provide guidance to all stakeholders on achieving regulatory compliance.
  • Develop the Municipal Building Control Plan with the Municipal Building Surveyor achieving the above objectives.


To be considered you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Inspection and Construction.
  • Professional registration as a Building Inspector Unlimited with the Victorian Building Authority.
  • Significant experience in leading Building Inspection Team, ideally within local government.
  • Demonstrated experience in solving problems achieving regulatory compliance within existing buildings.
  • Experience in the development, administration of a Municipal Building Control Plan will be highly regarded.
