Task & responsibilities

Responsibility:

Repair damage to metal, fibreglass and plastic body work on vehicles, and form replacement vehicle panels. Registration or licensing may be required.

Duties:

1.    Assessing Vehicle Damage and Determining Repair Methods:

•    Inspecting vehicles for damage after accidents or collisions.

•    Evaluating the extent of the damage to determine whether parts can be repaired or need replacement.

•    Choosing the most appropriate repair method for each situation.

2.    Removing Damaged Panels and Parts:

•    Removing damaged parts, such as doors, bumpers, hoods, and other body panels.

•    Using specialized tools, like hydraulic jacks or pulling devices, to straighten out bent frames or panels.

3.    Repairing and Restoring Surfaces:

•    Filling depressions, dents, or holes with body filler, which is then smoothed using sandpaper or other abrasive tools.

4.    Welding and Fitting Replacement Panels:

•    Fitting and welding new or replacement panels into place, ensuring that they match the vehicle’s original structure.

•    Ensuring the proper alignment and secure attachment of these panels.

5.    Repainting Repaired Surfaces:

•    Using spray guns and other painting equipment to apply primer, paint, and finish to the repaired areas.

•    Matching the vehicle’s original paint color and ensuring a smooth, uniform finish.

6.    Reassembling Vehicle Parts:

•    Reassembling all parts of the vehicle that were removed during the repair process.

•    Checking for proper alignment, fit, and function of these parts to ensure the vehicle is restored to a pre-accident state.

7.    Testing for Safety and Quality:

•    Conducting tests to ensure that the vehicle is safe and all repaired components are functioning correctly.

•    Ensuring the repaired vehicle meets safety standards and is ready for road use.


Qualification & experience

Qualifications:

•    Certificate III (or equivalent), including at least two (2) years of on-the-job training,

•    OR Certificate IV, or at least three (3) years of relevant experience

•    At least three (3) years of relevant experience.
