Maddington Auto Care Pty Ltd T/as City Discount Tyres Maddington is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis at our Maddington location. The successful candidate will lead and mentor a team of mechanics while being responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems and components to ensure vehicles meet safety, performance, and compliance standards.

Task & responsibilities

Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using computerized diagnostic equipment and manual testing procedures
Inspect, dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components to identify issues
Repair or replace defective or worn mechanical parts such as brake pads, bearings, belts, gaskets, and seals
Reassemble engines and mechanical parts after repair and ensure proper function through testing
Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, engine tune-ups, lubrications, filter replacements, and tyre rotations
Perform safety and emissions compliance checks where required
Operate diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, power, and air tools to complete repairs
Conduct test drives after repairs to verify mechanical integrity and performance
Maintain records of services and repairs, including customer reports and job sheets
Communicate repair requirements and procedures to customers, including cost and time estimates
Follow safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a clean and safe workshop environment
Perform physical workshop tasks including lifting, bending, and handling vehicle components
Lead and mentor workshop team members, coordinate daily tasks, and ensure quality control over all mechanical repair and maintenance work

Qualification & experience

AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (including 2 years on-job training) or AQF Certificate IV in the relevant field
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a commercial automotive workshop
Strong experience working with Asian, European, and other car brands
Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and guide other mechanics
Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and power/hand tools
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Commitment to high-quality workmanship and attention to detail
Physical ability to perform manual tasks in a workshop environment
Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing if required
