Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Motor Mechanic (General) to join our busy workshop who can confidently carry out mechanical repairs, fault diagnosis, maintenance, and servicing of petrol and diesel vehicles. The role is ideal for a technician with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for the automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:
Diagnostics & Fault‑finding
- Use scan tools, multimeters and road‑tests to identify mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
- Document diagnostic results accurately.
Mechanical Repairs & Component Replacement
- Dismantle, repair or replace engines, transmissions, steering, braking and suspension components.
- Re‑assemble and torque components to manufacturer specifications and verify correct performance.
Scheduled Servicing & Compliance
- Perform log‑book services, lubrication, cooling‑system maintenance and safety inspections.
- Complete road‑worthiness checks and compliance reports in line with ADRs.
Quality Control & Test Drives
- Tune and road‑test vehicles after repairs to verify performance, emissions and safety standards.
- Rectify residual issues before vehicle release to customers.
Customer Communication & Records
- Clearly explain faults, repair options, timelines and costs to customers.
- Record parts, labour and diagnostic data in the workshop management system.
WHS & Workshop Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, organised workspace and comply with WHS and environmental regulations.
- Mentor apprentices in safe work practices and correct repair techniques, as required.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced diagnostic aptitude with modern scan tools and OEM software.
- Sound knowledge of petrol & diesel engine, transmission, suspension and braking systems.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals and technical bulletins.
- Clear written and verbal communication, capable of translating technical issues for customers.
- Proven capacity to work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to WHS and environmental regulations.
- Commitment to quality workmanship
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or recognised equivalent)
- At least 1 year of relevant full-time work experience
- Current Full Australian driver’s licence
- Working knowledge of WHS & environmental standards
- This position is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and holders of valid work visas.
