The Vehicle Trimmer will be responsible for the skilled installation, repair, and refurbishment of bus seating systems and interior vehicle trims, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADR). The role requires precision workmanship, knowledge of commercial vehicle interiors, and hands-on experience in automotive trimming.

Duties:

• Removing and replacing seat covers, linings, floor coverings, and internal components in buses.
• Installing custom or prefabricated seats and trim to new and refurbished buses.
• Measuring and cutting upholstery materials such as leather, vinyl, and fabric according to specifications.
• Sewing and stitching materials using industrial sewing machines or by hand where required.
• Padding, shaping, and fixing cushioning materials to seat frames and trim panels.
• Refurbishing worn or damaged seating systems and internal trim components.
• Using adhesives, fasteners, and tools to affix trims and interior furnishings.
• Installing soundproofing, insulation, and protective coverings inside vehicles.
• Reading and interpreting job orders, design diagrams, and work instructions.
• Conducting post-installation inspections to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with ADR standards.

Responsibilities:

• Ensuring high-quality finishes on all seating and trimming jobs.
• Following established procedures and health & safety guidelines in workshop and on-site environments.
• Coordinating with team leaders and project managers to meet delivery timelines.
• Maintaining accurate records of work performed, parts used, and any deviations from job orders.
• Reporting on damaged parts, material shortages, and job progress.
• Maintaining tools and machinery in safe and good working condition.
• Contributing to continuous improvement by providing input on materials and processes.

Qualification & Experience

• Certificate III in Automotive Vehicle Trimming Technology or equivalent trade qualification.
• Minimum 1 year of full-time employment in a similar vehicle trimming or upholstery role, ideally involving commercial vehicles such as buses or coaches.
• Demonstrated experience working with seating systems, padding, trim repairs, and vehicle interior installations
• Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with a variety of trim materials and their properties.
• Ability to operate sewing machines, cutting tools, and power tools safely and effectively.
• Knowledge of ADR and Australian vehicle interior safety standards.
• Time management and ability to prioritize work across multiple projects.
• Team player with effective communication skills and a proactive attitude.
