The Motor Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, testing, and repairing petrol engines and mechanical parts of lightweight motor vehicles. The role requires a deep understanding of automotive systems, high-level problem-solving skills, and the ability to maintain vehicles in optimal condition, ensuring both safety and efficiency.

Task & Responsibilities

Job Responsibility & Duties:

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in engines and related components.
• Dismantle and remove assembled engines, transmissions, steering systems, and other vehicle parts.
• Inspect and evaluate the condition of disassembled components.
• Identify faulty parts and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
• Reassemble mechanical components following successful repairs.
• Interpret and follow service manual instructions during repair or replacement procedures.
• Perform routine maintenance services such as lubrication, engine tune-ups, and oil changes.
• Ensure vehicles operate efficiently and meet environmental regulations through scheduled maintenance.
• Rebuild engines and components after completing repair work.
• Test and adjust repaired parts to confirm proper functionality and performance.
• Utilize computerized diagnostic tools to assess and test vehicle systems.
• Conduct vehicle inspections for roadworthiness and issue certificates when applicable.
• Provide detailed assessments of additional work required to meet roadworthiness standards.
• Respond to roadside assistance calls and perform on-site vehicle repairs when necessary.
 

Occupational health & safety:


• Ensures your safety and the safety of others.
• Follow all safety requirements.
• Attend fit for work and not under the influence of alcohol or other drugs/substances.
• Maintaining person grooming/presentation standards
• Maintain an understanding of and act in accordance with OHS Policies, procedures and responsibilities.
• Participate in appropriate training to meet OHS responsibilities.
• Report hazards and risks promptly to management.


 


Qualification & Experience
  • AQF Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (or equivalent) with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the similar industry
  • Up-to-date trade knowledge.
  • Full-time work rights and immediate availability.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various vehicle systems.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic.
  • Good understanding of safety protocols and compliance with industry standards.
